Initially, 30 mg (given as a single 30-mg tab or as ½ of 60-mg tab) or 60 mg (given as a single tab) once daily, then may be increased to 120 mg (given as a single 120-mg tab or as two 60-mg tab) once daily.
Severe hypotension, vol-depleted patients or hypotensive; patients w/ MI or CHF; hypovolemia, marked anemia, heart failure due to obstruction (including constrictive pericarditis), raised intracranial pressure due to head trauma or cerebral hemorrhage; severe renal or hepatic impairment, hypothyroidism, malnutrition or hypothermia. May aggravate angina caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Daily headaches sometimes accompany during treatment. Lightheadedness on standing may be frequent in patients who consumed alcohol. Pregnancy & lactation.
Flushing of the face, dizziness, tachycardia, throbbing headache. Large doses may cause vomiting, restlessness, blurred vision, hypotension, syncope & rarely cyanosis, methemoglobinemia, impairment of resp & bradycardia.
